3 Day Lake Mburo Safari from Kampala
A 3-day Lake Mburo safari from Kampala is one of the best short Uganda wildlife trips for travellers who want game drives, a boat cruise and a walking safari without spending full days on the road. Lake Mburo National Park is the closest savannah park to Kampala and Entebbe, making it a practical choice for weekend safaris, short Uganda stays and travellers continuing to Bwindi or Queen Elizabeth. The park is known for zebras, impalas, elands, buffaloes, warthogs, hippos, crocodiles and rich birdlife. It also offers activities that are not common in many Uganda parks, including guided walking safaris, horseback safaris and cycling routes, depending on availability.

Detailed itinerary
Day 1, Transfer from Kampala or Entebbe to Lake Mburo
Your driver guide will pick you up from Kampala or Entebbe and begin the transfer to Lake Mburo National Park. The drive takes about 4 to 5 hours, depending on traffic, stops and road conditions. You will travel southwest through local towns and rural landscapes, with a stop at the Uganda Equator in Kayabwe for photos and a short water experiment. Continue through Lyantonde towards Lake Mburo National Park. As you approach the park, the landscape changes to rolling hills, acacia woodland, open grassland and scattered wetlands. Arrive in time for lunch at your lodge, then go for an afternoon game drive. Lake Mburo is known for zebras, impalas, elands, buffaloes, warthogs and topi. The park also has many bird species and scenic viewpoints that work well for photography. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay. Accommodation: Luxury: Mihingo Lodge or Kigambira Safari Lodge, Mid-range: Rwakobo Rock or Arcadia Cottages Lake Mburo, Budget: Eagle’s Nest Lodge or Leopard Rest Camp
Day 2, Lake Mburo Boat Cruise and Walking Safari

After breakfast, transfer to the landing site for a boat cruise on Lake Mburo. The boat cruise gives you a relaxed view of the park from the water. You may see hippos, crocodiles, buffaloes near the shoreline and water birds such as African fish eagles, pied kingfishers, malachite kingfishers, herons and cormorants. Return to the lodge for lunch and a short rest. In the afternoon, take a guided walking safari with an armed ranger. Lake Mburo is one of the best parks in Uganda for walking safaris because it has no elephants and no resident lions in the main visitor areas. This allows travellers to experience the savannah on foot under ranger guidance. During the walk, you may see zebras, impalas, elands, giraffes, bushbucks and birds at a slower pace than a vehicle safari. Your ranger will also explain animal tracks, plants, dung signs and how different species use the landscape. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3, Morning Game Drive and Return to Kampala or Entebbe
After breakfast, take a final morning game drive or optional bush breakfast, depending on your lodge arrangement and final quote. The morning drive gives you another chance to see zebras, impalas, elands, buffaloes, giraffes, warthogs and birdlife before leaving the park. Your guide will choose tracks based on recent wildlife movement and the location of your lodge. After the activity, begin the return journey to Kampala or Entebbe. Lunch can be arranged along the way, depending on timing. Arrival is expected in the late afternoon or early evening. For same-day international flights, choose a late evening departure to allow enough time for traffic and road delays.
