Day 1: Pick-up and transfer to Volcanoes National Park – Iby’iwacu Cultural Village
Depending on your location in Kigali, meet your safari driver to transfer to Volcanoes national park. It’s a 2-3-hour’ drive from Kigali. Depending on time, visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial site and other places of your own interest in Kigali.
Upon arrival, visit the Dian fossey Museum and the Iby’iwacu cultural village and experience the Rwanda cultural performances, shop the souvenir’s. Thereafter, connect to your booked lodge for check-in at your booked lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay at 5 Volcanoes Gorilla lodge for luxury/Da Vinci Gorilla lodge for mid-range/Hotel Muhabura for budget
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking and transfer to Akagera National Park
After breakfast, connect to the park headquarters where you will meet the park officials for briefing about the mountain gorillas in the mist, and thereafter enter into the jungle in search of the mountain gorillas , it takes about 2-8 hours depending on the location of the gorillas. On finding the gorillas, you will be allowed to spend 1 hour, take amazing photos and videos.
After spending your time with the fascinating mountain gorillas, return to the base and meet your driver who will transfer you to Akagera National Park. Dinner and overnight at Akagera Game lodge/Ruzizi Tented Camp
Day 3: Morning Game Drive – Afternoon boat ride
After breakfast, you will register and be joined by a park Guide who is familiar with the terrain and best areas for wildlife viewing. This game drive will take you through vast Savannah plains, woodlands and lake shores to look for Zebras, Elephants, Buffaloes, Giraffes, Lions, black-tailed Mongoose, olive baboons, vervet monkeys, colobus monkeys and bush babies (evening). Expect to spend about 4 hours on the game. Head back to the lodge for lunch.
The afternoon boat cruise at Lake Ihema takes you to see hippos, crocodiles and countless water birds. Lake Ihema is the largest lake in the park and is found in the southern sector. The lake feeds several other water bodies within and outside the park. Lake Ihema covers an area equivalent to 90 square kilometers. The Eastern shores help define the border between Rwanda and Tanzania. As already noted, Lake Ihema is home to crocodiles, hippopotamus and several bird species – including lbis, herons, plovers, sandpipers, Hawks and others already mentioned. The boat ride takes about two hours. After the boat cruise, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay at lodge as above
Day 4: Return to Kigali – Departure
After breakfast at leisure, return drive out of the park and return to Kigali. You will have an enroute city tour visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial Site and museums. You may then have lunch and then proceed to a location you will advise or drop you at the airport to find your scheduled flight back home.
