Horseback riding in Uganda is one of the newly introduced Uganda safari Tour activity of exploring, currently this thrilling safari activity is offered and done in basically 2 places in Uganda where horseback riding activity is famous that is in Jinja by the Nile Horseback riding safari and in Lake Mburo national park by Mihingo lodge and some places around Kampala city.

Horseback riding in Jinja is operated by the Nile Horseback Safaris situated on the west bank of the River Nile opposite Explorers River Camp at Bujagali Falls, the horseback rides in Jinja offers a fantastic way of exploring the Banks of River Nile, the traditional Ugandan Village and the stunning panorama from the hills overlooking the Nile River Valley.

Horses used in horseback riding in Jinja range in sizes and breeds to suit each and every individual from beginners to advanced skilled riders, all horses are trained for about 1 and a half years before they are put out for rides.

  • Intro Pony rides

Intro pony rides are kids as well as adults who are beginners in horse ridding, these rides last for about 30 minutes to one hour depending on an individual preference. To ensure the safety of the kids, guides available to walk with child. Also parents are welcome to walk with their children.  

  • I hour mixed group rides

One-hour ride are organized for novices, kids, aged riders and individuals who are a little nervous, this ride is generally slow packed with a walk and trot. These rides are mostly done in the local village and 1 kilometer along the banks of River Nile. For extremely nervous riders, they can be lead along the lead ropes, children must be above 6 years to participate in this ride.

  • 1.5 hour mixed group rides

1.5 hour mixed group rides are slightly more advanced version of 1 hour rides, however these rides are still done at a slower pace. These rides offer more sightseeing as they are conducted through the village and along the river banks of River Nile. 

  • Sunset rides

Sunset rides are late in the afternoon starting at around 4 pm and lasting for about 90 minutes, sunset rides are more relaxed rides taking you in a stunning light across the river and the village is at a relaxed mood in the afternoon, the rides are complimented with a boat cruise and a few sundowner drinks at Nile River Camp.

  • 2 hour mixed group rides

2 hour mixed group rides are perfect rides for families or a group of friends with ability to ride together, the rides are done in the rural areas and a section along the Nile. These rides are generally comfortable rides and no one is expected to go faster. 

  • 2 hour advanced rides

2 hour advanced rides are rides for serious riders, these rides last for 2 hours offering plenty of opportunity for lots of cantering in the hills, plantations, the section in the village and along the banks of River Nile.  This ride is strictly private and novices are not allowed.
