Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla national park are homes to roughly half of the world’s mountain gorillas. Bwindi national park is an Afromontane forest with dense under growth of fern, vines, and shrubs. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park is found in south-western Uganda on the edge of the western arm of the Great East African Rift Valley. Gorilla trekking in Bwindi forest is one of the most popular Uganda safari activities. You need a minimum of 3 days to do a gorilla safari in Uganda. However, a gorilla safari can also be combined with a game viewing in Queen Elizabeth national park on a 5 Days Gorilla and wildlife safari

The Chimpanzee commonly shortened as Chimp is one of the primates found in Uganda. Chimpanzees are known to be the closest specie of apes to humans, sharing 98% of the genes that we also have. Murchison falls national park

Murchison Falls National Park is located in northern Uganda near the Albertine Rift valley and is one of the most visited Uganda National Parks. It is the oldest and largest national park in Uganda which was gazetted as a wildlife reserve in 1926 and earned its first title as a national park in 1952. It covers 3,840km2 in size bisected by the Victoria Nile which divides the Park into the Northern and Southern sector.

Rhino trekking at Ziwa rhino sanctuary

Ziwa rhino sanctuary is the only breeding place for the rhinos in Uganda. Tourist activities at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary go beyond watching the Rhinos. The 19 endangered species are located off the Kampala – Gulu highway in Nakasongola district about 180 kilometres north of Kampala.  The Sanctuary creates opportunities for tourism while upholding best conservation practices and this has become a fast growing destination for tourists. Given that there are no rhinos in the Uganda national park, the sanctuary serves as the one place to see the rhinos in Uganda. A trip to the Ziwa rhino sanctuary serves as an en-route tour to Murchison falls national park as it’s on the way to Uganda largest national park and home to the most powerful waterfalls in the world.

Mgahinga national park

Mgahinga national park forms a portion of the Virunga Volcano conservation area, It’s the home of Mountain Gorillas and it is registered that there is only 1 gorilla family in this park because guerrilla movements are affected by the distribution of plant species on which they feed hence this area was gazetted to provide a secure habitat for these massive, but gentle creatures. This park is also the only place to see the golden monkeys in Uganda. The summit of Mount Muhavura is the highest point of the park at 4,127 m and has a small crater lake that tourists may want to visit.

Crater lakes tours in Uganda

Most of the crater lakes in Uganda can be seen in Kabarole between the main Fort Portal – Kasese road and Kibale Forest is a collection of Crater lakes. These crater lakes are formed as a result of volcanicity, with violent eruption causing the top of a volcano to be blown off, leaving a crater. The lakes are so many and vary size and character, and have well-developed facilities. It’s amazing that crater lakes are bilharzia-free and hence safe for swimming
