Entrance fees to Kidepo valley national park : Kidepo Valley national park is one of the Africa’s finest wilderness area and the third biggest national park in Uganda located in the far end of the north-eastern Uganda stretching along the borders of Uganda with South Sudan and Kenya, the park is situated near Karenga in Kaabong district with Moroto as the nearest Town. Moroto is the largest and main town in the Karamojong region, from Kampala it is about 560 kilometres from Kampala.
Kidepo Valley national park covers an area of 1,442 square kilometers, the landscape of the park is transverse by the Kidepo and Narus rivers, dominated by the Morungole Mountain standing at the altitude of 2,750 meters and is partly dominated by rugged savannah. The park is found in the rocky semi-arid Karamoja province. Kidepo valley national park harbours outstanding landscape scenery unrivalled by any other national park in the whole of Africa featuring a wide latitudinal array of remarkable vegetation.
Kidepo Valley national park is a home to 77 animal species including resident carnivore species which are only endemic to Kidepo, animals in the park include hunting dog, bat-eared fox, cheetah, striped hyena, caracal, aardwolf, Beisa Oryx, Lesser kudu, grant’s gazelles, elephant, oribis, Burchell’s zebras, Jackson’s hartebeests, bush pigs, cape buffaloes, bohor reedbucks, warthogs, defassa waterbucks, Rothschild giraffes, bush duskier and elands, bushbucks, in addition to lions, common zebras, leopards, plus several small cats such as the side-striped jackal, Kongoni, black-backed jackal spotted hyena, lions among others.
The Uganda Wildlife authority is the only body responsible for providing prices for park entry fees to all Uganda national parks and over years the Uganda wildlife authority revises park fees at least after every 2 years. To access Kidepo Valley national park, one needs to be aware of the park fees required to be able to enter the park. Kidepo valley national park entrance Fees are the tariff that are set by the government of Uganda through the Uganda Wildlife Authority as fees paid by all visitors that want to enter and experience the beauty of the park.
These fees are used to promote the conservation works at the park. It’s from those contributions that the park raises for conservation and maintenance of wildlife. The park has stood at its park to fight against poaching through sensitizing the locals and training more rangers
What you need to know about Kidepo Valley National park fees
Park entry fees are based on nationalities; foreign non-residents are visitors who do not live or stay in the visiting country, foreign residents are those who stay and work in a particular country which is not of their origin and East African residents are citizen who belong to the East African countries including Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, South Sudan and Burundi.
Both Park entrance fees and vehicle fees in Kidepo valley national park are valid for only 24 hours from time of entry.
Kidepo valley national park entrance fees are charged individually (per person)
Payments are allowed in two currencies only – the Uganda shillings (UGX) which is Uganda’s local currency and United States of America Dollars (USD). All foreigners and foreign residents pay in USD and if they want to pay in local currency they are subjected to the current Foreign Exchange rate which is set the Uganda Wildlife Authority. The East African residents are allowed to pay in Uganda shillings.
Due to the changing technology, the Uganda Wildlife Authority introduced the cashless payments methods where the visitors use their own credit card and mobile transactions to pay for park entry fees as cash payments at point of entry has been removed. Children between the ages of 5 to 15 years pay different fees from the adults while those below 5 years are not charged any park fees. Foreign non-resident children pay US$20, foreign residents US$10 while East Africans pay 5,000 UGX per child.
There are other private activities at the park which are paid separately from the park entrance fees such as research fees, hiking fees, community walks, nature walk visit, guided bird watching, and others. Thus, park entrance fees only guarantee your entry to the park
